Assam Sunrise is a black tea that originated in the state of Assam, India. Assam tea is particularly known for having a strong bright color and malty flavor. It is considered to be a great tea for the mornings, mainly because it is a black tea, which is characterized for having a high caffeine content.

Unlike Darjeeling and Nilgiri teas, which are grown in the highlinds of India, Assam is grown in the lowlands. The region also produces green and white teas although in smaller quantities. The region of Assam is the second commercial producer of tea after southern China.
